winter blues and colorful hues

I know we’re in the heart of winter right now, but I’m craving color. I’ve said it before that I’m a color person. I have plenty of neutral shades in my closet, and of course, I have the necessary black pieces that I adore, but I do love color. When it’s cold and rainy out, I can’t help but get a case of the winter blues (and I know I’m down south so I really can’t complain that much about cold weather). Color instantly lifts my mood, and while it may be jacket and boot weather, I still throw in color any chance I get (hence the pink tweed blazer I wore to my birthday dinner on Monday night). Accessories are always an easy way to throw in that touch of color if you still want to keep the rest of your ensemble a more neutral, winter-friendly palette. I’ve rounded up some of my current favorite colorful accessories below.

Here we are again with another edition of My Favorites’ Favorites. Today it’s all about Alyssa Longobucco from The Glossy Life (one of my daily reads and personal favorites). Alyssa and I connected a while back and we continuously stay in touch. She’s a fabulous writer and I’m utterly obsessed with her DIY projects and recipes. She has a great sense of style, and is such a sweet person. I’m clearly a huge fan and you should all head on over to The Glossy Life if you haven’t yet. Let’s check out Alyssa’s current favorite items.

Alyssa’s Thoughts…

1. A Bold Bag: If I’m going to invest in one thing, it’s going to be a bag, and for spring I wanted to go really bold. I was thrilled when I found this Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag on majjjorrrrr sale in one of my favorite colors. The bright yellow is totally cheering me up through the nasty winter months and brings every outfit up a notch. I love it!

2. A cozy snood: All fall and winter, I was dying for a (faux) fur piece. I was so excited when, Christmas morning, I unwrapped this beauty from Jack Wills. I’ve been pairing it with anything and everything–jeans and sweaters, silk dresses and cords. I can’t get enough!

3. A killer scrub: Winter does not treat me kindly. I have dry skin as is, so the freezing temps only exacerbate that. Luckily, I always (I mean ALWAYS) have a fab scrub on hand. My favorite is from Sabon–the smells are all amazing, and it turns shower time a little indulgent. Plus, the oil moisturizes and scents your skin for the whole day.

4. A yummy candle:I love candles, especially in the winter–they always set the perfect cozy atmosphere. My favorite candle recently is the “Woodsy” scent from Brooklyn-based company ApothekeCo. If I could describe how it smells, I would, but you should probably just go buy it!

5. Tough boots: Finding shoes that are at once stylish and sturdy enough for NYC winters is no easy feat. I stumbled upon these Chelsea boots from ASOS and it was love at first sight–I mean, how could it not be?! I love pairing them with tights and skirts for work. I feel very British and chic, I must say!

Oh how much I love these two

I absolutely love the colors of this Clover Canyon top, and I can picture it with dark skinny jeans and fabulous black booties.

The purple color of this Rebecca Minkoff bag is so beautiful, and the stud detailing adds such a nice element to the style.
