Summer Soiree

I know I know, it’s not even spring. However, the second I saw this skirt I thought of summer. And then I thought of hosting a summer soiree, and I got really excited. The skirt is everything. The colors are perfection, and I wish I could wear it right now. Seeing as I can’t, I will just gush over it until the seasons change.

Jul’s Gems

It’s been one of those really great weeks. It started with one of my best friends visiting from New York. I showed her all around Houston, took her to my favorite Mexican restaurant, El Tiempo, and we had a great couple of days. When she left I was non stop busy with projects and writing and lots of work. As much as I love my couch time very much, I absolutely love to stay busy, as well. If I’m having a slower work day, I will force myself to find more to do because I strongly dislike feeling unproductive during the week (that’s what I try to save my weekends for). One of the most satisfying feelings is crossing off items on a longer than normal to-do list. Here are some smaller, enjoyable moments that took place throughout my past week.

playing music on an old school jukebox at the bar we went to earlier in the week

receiving unique and fabulous coasters from a store in Austin as a housewarming gift

using fresh basil in my recipe from dinner Wednesday night (here)

my FPTP mousepad arriving in the mail (from Zazzle)

having a delicious dinner with refreshing cocktails last night

not your average ice cubes

I’ve been loving filled ice cubes lately. I think they are such an unexpected treat in a drink. Fill them with parts of flowers or fruit and you have instantly made your beverage that much better. Whether it’s a cocktail or seltzer water (or anything in between) an ice cube filled with something, such as a rose petal, makes what you’re drinking prettier and, in some cases, tastier. It’s such a great idea when entertaining because the cubes can become part of the party decor. Below are a few of my favorite filled ice cube ideas that I plan on trying at the next party I throw.
